Safeguarding Policy

1. Purpose of the Policy

This policy aims to protect children and young people during online tutoring sessions. It promotes safety, trust, and respect while ensuring compliance with legal and ethical safeguarding responsibilities.

2. Tutor Responsibilities

The tutor will maintain professionalism at all times during tutoring sessions. All communication with students and parents will be appropriate and relevant to tutoring. One-on-one communication outside of tutoring platforms will not occur without parental consent (e.g., personal social media or text messaging). Sessions will be conducted using secure, professional platforms such as Zoom or Teams.

3. Parental/Guardian Involvement

Parents or guardians are encouraged to monitor or sit in on sessions, particularly for younger students. All session bookings and major communication should involve the parent or guardian of students under 18.

4. Reporting Concerns

If the tutor observes any signs of neglect, abuse, or inappropriate behaviour, concerns will be documented and kept confidential. If necessary, the tutor will report the concerns to the appropriate authorities, such as local safeguarding teams or child protection services.

5. Code of Conduct

The tutor will always act in the best interests of the student, foster a positive and supportive learning environment, and avoid physical contact or discussions unrelated to tutoring.

Students are expected to respect the tutor and the online learning environment and avoid sharing personal information beyond what is required for tutoring.

6. Technology and Privacy

Sessions are conducted using secure, password-protected online platforms. Recordings of sessions, if necessary, will only be made with parental or guardian consent and used solely for educational purposes. Personal data is handled in compliance with the Privacy Policy.

7. Review and Updates

This policy is reviewed annually or as required to ensure compliance with safeguarding regulations and best practices.
